The May 2005 Alternative Press article, noting that it was still unclear what songs will make the final cut, described the song with, "Weezer's cover version of this song is at least five times more dramatic than Toni Braxton's and ten times as loaded with prom-rock guitar solos." Despite not making the album, the recording history notes that the song was considered for an unnamed movie soundtrack at one point. Despite a cover song never appearing on a Weezer album prior, it seems the song was seriously considered for Make Believe and was one of the final contenders for the album, as noted by interviews in the spring of 2005 prior to the album's release. The song was suggested to Weezer by producer Rick Rubin during the sessions for their Make Believe album, with the final version being recorded in December of 2003. Braxton's original, titled "Un-Break My Heart", was released in 1996.
